Buenos Aires born musician TALL JUAN, AKA Juan Zaballa, heads to these shores on Thursday 21 January for a headline show at The Lock Tavern. You may already know him under a different guise, as a member of The Beets and backing up fellow South American guitar hero Juan Wauters.
2015 release Why Not? is his most recent solo venture, a 4 track EP of jittery, minute and a half long garage punk tracks that are sure to rattle the Lock’s tiny stage.
Ahead of that show, Juan has kindly put together a selection of tracks from bands we should be listening to more of in 2016.
I first heard their music in 2014 when i was touring the US playing guitar for my friend Juan Wauters. Back then we played maybe three or four shows with them during that tour and i really liked them.
I don’t know much about new bands out there, but Mac is one of my favourites ones, that’s why i would like to hear some new material of his sometime during this year.
I love Juan’s lyrics, music and him as a person. His music really Inspires me in many ways. I Can’t wait to hear his new stuff and see how it will affect me.
Waiting for his first record to be out, hopefully this year.. Some good groovie music from Oxnard,CA.
Kirin J Callinan
Kirin’s music is different from any other band i’ve heard of during 2015. I like it because it has humour and drama. It sounds modern and very theatrical to me.
