Portland Oregon trio GUANTANAMO BAYWATCH head to these shores for a headline show at The Shacklewell Arms on Thursday 10 December. The band released new album Darling… It’s Too Late on Suicide Squeeze Records in May, cementing themselves as one of the great modern day exponents of classic rock ‘n’ roll.
To mark the end of 2015 the band have put together a playlist of their favourite tracks of the year. There may be a few surprises, check it out below.
Grab your tickets for the show here.
Along with that, we’ve also spoken to the band about their trip to these shores, surf and their infamous live show. Check that out below.
LNZRT: GREAT TO HAVE YOU GUYS BACK IN LONDON! ANY MUST-DOS OR MUST-SEES WHILE YOU’RE IN TOWN?
GB: Fish and chips and take pictures with furry hatted cops.
LNZRT: YOU’VE DESCRIBED YOURSELVES AS A HOUSE SHOW BAND… WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR YOU?
GB: Probably wouldn’t rlly describe us as a house show band as much anymore, but we’ve played a lotta house shows, especially in the first few years. Most of the bands in Portland that we know started out playing house shows and there used to be a ton of house show venues back then.
LNZRT: YOU’VE SAID THAT SURF MUSIC COMES FROM A LONGING FOR SUMMER. TELL ME ABOUT THE BEST SUMMER YOU’VE HAD.
GB: I was about ten, and I moved to a new town with my dad and new stepmom into a funeral home. I met and fell in love with a nerdy, but cute boy, even though he had severe allergies, especially to beez. He gave me a mood ring, but then he died because he got stung by a bee.
LNZRT: IT SEEMS LIKE YOU GUYS DO A LOT TO ACCESS THE PLAYFULNESS OF TRADITIONAL SURF ROCK IN YOUR MUSIC. IS THAT WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THE GENRE IN THE FIRST PLACE?
GB: Mostly we party and drink Jaegermeister. We just got to the hotel in Bordeaux and started watching a documentary about Nelson Mandela. We just popped a bottle of Singli Riojato and later, are going bowling with the two sexy hotel receptionists.
LNZRT: THAT SAID, DO YOU WORRY ABOUT BEING TAKEN SERIOUSLY?
GB: In light of the last question, absolutely not.
LNZRT: YOU’RE A GREAT BAND TO SEE LIVE– WHAT GOES THROUGH YOUR HEAD WHEN YOU’RE PLAYING A LIVE SHOW?
GB: Where da jaeger at… I need a shower…
